The house is located in the Deercroft Community in the Sandhills of NC. Swimming, fishing, and boating (electric motors only) are in your back yard. Golfing is nearby at Deercroft Golf and Country Club which Golf Week Magazine hailed as "One of America's Best Golf Courses." Also nearby are the Sandhills Game Lands, reputed for great hunting. It's about 20 minutes north to Southern Pines, a lovely little town reminiscent of a New England village with more cultural opportunities than you'd expect in a small town. Another 10 minutes west takes you to Pinehurst, home of world famous golf, a superb community college, and great medical services. Twenty minutes south will take you to Laurinburg, an All America City, and home of St. Andrews College, one of the first colleges designed and built to be wheelchair accessible. About 40 minutes to the northeast is Fayetteville, with Ft. Bragg and a VA Hospital. About 40 minutes to the southeast is University of North Carolina at Pembroke, which, until 1953 was the only state-supported four-year college for Native Americans in the nation. UNCP attracts top notch performers to its Givens Performing Arts Center. The Southern Pines newspaper is The Pilot, and the Laurinburg paper is The Laurinburg Exchange, and the Fayetteville paper is the Fayetteville Observer. |
| From the house, it's about an hour and a half north to Raleigh, a couple of hours west to Charlotte, and a couple hours east to the beach. |
